As a successful independent publisher, we never really had access to analytical tools or much data. We really had no transparency how certain songs were performing. Now we enjoy quick access to how almost each song in our catalogue is performing relative to others by numbers and also by territory.
On songwriters getting more credit:
Songwriters have pretty much always enjoyed pop-star status among the artist and label community since they consistently provide the songs that turn artist careers into international brands. However, it’s mostly been a B2B relationship which now thanks to Spotify is a direct relationship. Fans can get to know the discography of successful writers and maybe even discover new artists, simply because they love a certain songwriter’s style.
